07-Black on Scarface & gangster films

ASSIGNMENT DELAYED, BOOK NOT IN YET.  Before class on Feb 5th, read Gregory Black, Hollywood Censored, pp. 107-111 (up to discussion of Little Caesar), 121-132 (up to discussion of prison films).  Before class, post to the blog a detailed account of what you learned about Scarface and gangster films in the 1930s from the reading in Black.  We will go over your postings in class.  I will then talk about the early history of film censorship and the Hays Office and we may watch selections from a documentary on the issue from the Forbidden Hollywood Vol. 2 DVD from TCM Archives.

Do not use the Leave a Reply box below but the New Post link in the blue area at the top of the page. Also remember to check Black (under Assignments) and your name (under People) in the category boxes to the right of the posting area.
